Edited to add: a couple friends encouraged me to link this up to the Embellish Rainbow Color Trends Challenge that is about to expire... you know how I like last minute linkings. :)
I made this card for Sue's Scrappin' Sunday #5. I've wanted to play along since she started her little "let's use up our scraps" challenges, but this is the first time I've been able to. Actually that probably means that I have way too much to do and I'm avoiding doing it, but... whatever. :) Here's my card for this week's challenge — which is to use up the bits of ribbons that you (inexplicably) save.
SHOW
I'm pretty known around here for saving bits and pieces of all kinds of things. Here are my ribbon bits that I drew from...
Yeah... they're pretty organized, but — as you can see — I really need to use a lot more of them. Maybe I need to incorporate ribbon tabs into more of my projects. :)
Or — I could do what Sue did, which was to cover cardstock scraps (yes, I have those, too...) and use them as a focal point. I think her butterfly card is pretty fabulous. (You can check it out here.) I'd like to try that, too. {sigh} So many ideas, so little time...
AND TELL: stamps are from Stampin' Up (Bella Toile) and Papertrey Ink (Everyday Button Bits); cardstock is SU (Basic Black) and PTI (Stampers Select White); ink is Memento (Tuxedo Black) and VersaMark; also used Stamp 'n Stuff Detail white embossing powder and leftover bits of ribbon.
OK — now a little more from our midwestern trip. Hope you don't mind. We're getting into family stuff now...
because the main reason for our entire trip was the Hayes family reunion.
Saturday night is what's known as "the cousins party". It started out as a time where the young people (the cousins) could get together without all the old folks around. Now most of those young people are no longer young.
Ken's parents were always kind of "honorary cousins" who were allowed to crash the party. Now Ken's mom is the only party crasher left.
As you can see, she's a pretty well-loved party crasher, though.
The party is in the backyard of one of the cousins...
and is relaxed and fun with lots of casual conversation around the tables.
On Sunday Ken loves to go to the cemetery in the morning.
We visit his dad's grave and the graves of his grandparents, great grandparents, and a host of aunts, uncles, and other relatives. It's a nice little cemetery next to a little country church — way off the beaten path.
And, then we let the GPS take us whatever way it likes to get us to the town where the official family reunion is held. Sometimes the GPS doesn't do us too well...
trying to take us on roads that are underwater...
or, just generally, in bad condition. It is quite an interesting trip. :)
But eventually we do get where we're going...
to the park where we always meet in the same pavilion for conversation, food, and reminiscing...
I really should do a better job of getting pictures of the people at the reunions. Maybe I'll focus on that next time. Cousin Kay probably wouldn't mind having some current photos to add in with the family history that she works on throughout the year.
And that's it for today. Only one more day of photos from our trip. Whew. Bet you'll be glad to have me move on to something else! (I think I'll be glad to move on, too!)
Thanks so much for spending a little of your precious time here with me. I so enjoy your visits. Hope to see you again tomorrow!
