I originally made this card for last week's One Layer Wednesday challenge and then when I started to post it realized that it didn't fit the challenge at all (which was to layer stamped images). I started out on the right track but got sidetracked along the way when the sentiment "got lost" in the bicycle spokes. So — I had to think of a new card for OLW, but think this is still good enough to share. (haha — who am I kidding? If I make it, I share it... good, bad, or ugly. :) )
SHOW
I actually made three different cards because I liked it so much; I just varied the color of ink for the bicycle. I made them three different sizes, too. They didn't actually start out to be three different sizes. That happened after they were made. Sometimes the spacing just seemed to be a little off, but with a little trimming of the right side or by taking a bit off the bottom — well, all seemed to be in balance again. In the photo above you can see the different sizes... the turquoise one is the standard 4-1/4" x 5-1/2" card. The orange card had a little taken off the right, the pink... a little off the bottom. Amazing how just a little can make a big difference. And since these will be for my own use and not part of a set, no one will be the wiser. :)
AND TELL: stamps are from Unity (Basket full of...); cardstock is Stampin' Up (Sahara Sand); ink is SU (Sahara Sand, Pumpkin Pie, Tempting Turquoise, Regal Rose); rhinestones are from my stash.
Today I am going to finally finish sharing photos of our car trip to the midwest. Aren't you glad? :)
We started out early in the morning our last day on the road...
as we made our way into Tennessee...
and finally into some beautiful sunshiny blue skies...
and finally to North Carolina...
Since we had been making pretty good time, we got off the interstate highway and took some incredibly twisty roads...
through a couple small towns...
and wound up in Lake Lure, North Carolina...
at the Lake Lure Smokehouse, a restaurant owned by some good friends who used to live near us in Charlotte.
Their previous restaurant, The Cajun Pig, burned to the ground a few years ago, and they just recently opened this new restaurant directly across from the beach area at Lake Lure. (You may not have heard of Lake Lure before, but if you saw the movie "Dirty Dancing" you've seen the Lake Lure area... some of the movie was filmed there.)
It was fun to visit Tim & Debbie's new place of business, but mostly it was fun to have a chance to visit with Debbie.
She wasn't scheduled to be at the restaurant that day, but made a special trip over just to see us. (So nice of her!)
After our lunch and visit with Debbie, we got back on the road and arrived home in the early afternoon... which made the dog very happy...
She'd probably been wondering where her people were.
It also made Ken very happy because it gave him a few hours at home before he headed to the airport to fly out for a week-long business trip to Boston. No rest for the poor guy.
So — that's what we did on our summer vacation. :)
Now our attention is fully on our daughter's upcoming wedding... just over three weeks away (insert scream here). I seem to waver between denial, confidence, and sheer panic. So far this week I've been feeling really good. Now I'm starting to think that I've been fooling myself into thinking everything is under control when it really is not. I guess you can insert another scream here.
Maybe if I make a new list of what needs to be done I'll feel better. Off to try that now.
Thanks so much for stopping by and reading my ramblings. I plan to be back tomorrow with this week's One Layer Wednesday card. Yep, trying something new... posting way before the Tuesday night deadline. :) Thanks again for your visit and I hope to see you back here soon!
More great photos. Loved your cards. So glad you're home safely. Relax. Enjoy the days ahead. Your daughter is heading for one of the best days of her life.

I absolutely love the bicycle - I have a bit of a thing about them I think, like you with birds, except obviously I don't feel creepy about bikes... I think SU needs a bicycle image in the catalogue! Thank you for sharing your wonderful journey and I expect you're glad to be home sweet home.

Thanks for sharing the pictures of your trip, Janelle! The bicycle stamp speaks to me...I envision it as a gift tag....not sure why...just a whimsical application from your kookie but lovable sister!!!!!
